I hate to say this but I had completely forgotten about him until he came on.

He needs to watch those falsettos. There are only a select few artists that can pull them off and one tiny little note away can ruin the sound.

Good but not great performance.

What a mess. He can’t pull off those falsettos but keeps trying. Dull and unconvincing. A bit above karaoke, more like bar singer. Sadly he’ll probably be back to torment me again next week.

Megan, Adam and Kris were my favorites but no one was fantastic tonight.

I like him, but I don’t remember what he sang either lol.
I do remember that his voice was nice and soft and silky smooth though. Very sexy…. one of those types that you turn on during intimate moments.
I did enjoy the performance when I watched it, but now I don’t remember what he sang

AI is over as the judges officially crown Adam is the winner of season 9 tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s so not fair as it makes the rest of the contestant look and feel bad!!!!!!!!!! It’s like David Archuleta and David Cook all over again. They want to produce two idols from one season. Adam will be the runner up and someone else will be the winner!

When the judge, Simon I think, commented on Matt having to perform following Adam’s solo, I believe he would like to have responded with, ‘then why didn’t you guys schedule me beFORE him?’

Tonight was better. He started out well & I enjoyed him at piano. I appreciate performers who sing while playing a musical instrument.

I like Matt a lot. He’s not the best singer in the group, but he’s got a lot of soul. I guess I’m a sucker for soul or something. Add in the piano and it’s a great combo. I think he’s awesome!

Liked that one so much better than some of his earlier stuff. i’d like to hear him do some more Ray charles… I really like this guy, but I could live without his falsetto attempt at the end. otherwise, loved it.

nothing special, but a very good cover. i’m thinking he’s faking the husky voice too much. sometimes it’s just over the top. nonetheless it was very good. reminded me of coldplay.

I don’t go to piano bars. Most of America doesn’t either. He’s good for maybe 4 more weeks unless he finds a way to go pop like he wants and have the judges not smack him down for it. Only Jasmine’s performance was more boring for me.

I like his voice, just not this piano bar stuff.

I love Matt.
HE did an amazing job. What a great voice.
He was also for me one of the Top 3 of the night.
I really hope they don’t keep pimping Danny and Adam down our throats all the time.

Haters. He was one of the best tonight. He will sale, cause he’s current and marketable. Not like Adam. He has an amazing voice. Has the it factor, dresses well, and great stage presence. I know if he did an album, he will have the whole look to go along with it. Not too many guys can do those runs like he can, and he has that JT and Robin Thicke thing going on.

Btw, I’m jealous of him cause he got to do Human Nature. That is one of my all time favorite MJ songs and I always said, someday when I in AI, I want to sing that song acoustic and hope that the show honors MJ, but they already did. =(

I’ve been watching this show for years. And this guy is one of the best ever to be on the show.

He is definitely the dark horse to win it this year! Keep an eye on him! I love his smooth vocals and the riffs he adds are amazing. Talent like this can’t be trained..it’s all natural.

On another note I just watched back the video and didn’t notice before that it appears Matt is bi/multi racial. I think his Mom is part Black. I would love him to talk about this at some point, especially growing up in the midwest. I think that exposure to other cultures growing up provides a richer experience to draw from as an artist and gives depth and soul to the performance. I really hope Matt sticks around to show us all what he has inside of him

Not that Matt’s ethnicity is an issue at all…but I thought the same thing. May I assume (for both of us) it’s more of understanding the base of his musical “genesis”.

In one of the earlier interviews…they did a close up of Matt…and I thought to myself that he looked Bi-racial or mixed. And when they showed his mother this week…she to looked Bi-racial or mixed.

Can’t say for sure what the other ethnicity is (could be Hispanic or Black or Indian)…but it does appear that our first inclination was correct. Plus the statement Matt made that his first musical influences were Kirk Franklin & Fred Hammond (2 urban/contemporary Gospel artist)…then Ella Fitzgeraold & Louis Armstrong when he went to college…does tend to lean me toward him having some African-American heritage/culture…at least we know Black Gospel music and Jazz/Blues has influenced his musical experience.

When I watched the show I thought his falsetto was a bit off, too. But when I listen back to the MP3 that Ricky posted…the falsetto comes across much better and he actually sounds pretty good. I would recommend that he works on controlling his vibrato though…it tends to throw him off the note a bit after doing a run/riff sometimes.

I think he’ll be safe for another week.

Matt sang with the Detroit Outreach Church, where he got his nickname White Chocolate. He was the one who named his group during Hollywood week.

I love his voice but his performance on the piano made me want to dance – he was dancing on the piano bench!

i really like him, love his voice, loved the vocals, *kinda* liked the song arrangement…except that i feel like the song didn’t go anywhere…it all stayed in this fuzzy mid-tempo place and it needed a climax.
