‘X Factor’ Contestant Gifty Louise Says She Knew Result Before Elimination
Gifty Louise was shockingly eliminated from The X Factor UK this past Sunday, representing the first loss for Simon Cowell and his Girls category. However, Gifty dropped a bombshell: she knew she was going home a full twenty-four hours before the results show!
In an interview with On Demand Entertainment, Gifty outright stated, ‘Oh I knew I was going home. I got told I was going home on the Saturday night, so I knew.”
Gifty didn’t elaborate, but she did go on to address the claims that The X Factor is fixed.
“I feel like the show is what you make of it,” she said. “When it comes to the whole fix allegations I don’t know. I can’t say anything, I’m not the producers. We just perform and we just have to be great and hope people vote for us.”
However, Gifty was a bit more upset about having lost the Bottom Two sing-off to Girl group Four of Diamonds.
“I don’t want to mention any names, but I just felt it was a bit unfair as it was my first time in the bottom two,” Gifty said. “Four of Diamonds it was the second time but you know what, it is what it is.”
A spokesperson for The X Factor released a statement to MailOnline refuting Gifty’s claims of being told about her elimination the night before the results show.
“The bottom two contestants who face the sing-off is decided by the public vote and the vote does not close until Sunday night, so the results are not known until then. Gifty’s comments were related to what friends and family said to her after her performance on Saturday night, as they felt she was at risk of being in the sing-off.”
Although the show is in complete damage control mode, I sort of feel there is merit to what Gifty is saying, judging by how Simon accidentally voted to send Gifty home before correcting himself. As the boss of the show, he’d certainly know who was supposed to go home prior to voting. Either way, I just think it’s strange that Sharon and Nicole would give Gifty a standing ovation and then vote to send her home. You’d think this would have at least gone to deadlock, but nope. It was a unanimous vote to send Gifty home.
And you know what? I would wager that not only was Gifty not the lowest vote-getter, I’d bet she wasn’t the second-lowest either. With the number of times Ryan Lawrie has been saved from the Bottom 3 with the Lifeline Vote, I would think the actual Bottom 2 ought to have been a sing-off between Ryan and Four of Diamonds. Back in Season 10, The X Factor played with the results by testing out a new Flash vote — a concept that was quickly ditched not long after the start of the live shows. Why this hasn’t been done with the Lifeline Vote is anyone’s guess. After all, it’s not as if the result can’t be controlled through the judges anyway. But now I’m rambling. All I’m saying is that I can buy what Gifty is suggesting about the show.
But what do you think? Do you think Gifty has a point, or is this just sour grapes? Sound off in the comments!
