WWE Star Sheamus Pokes Fun at Conor McGregor Tweet
WWE star Sheamus is poking fun at his fellow Irishman, mimicking the tweet that MMA star Conor McGregor used to announce his return to the UFC following his “retirement” last week.
McGregor’s tweet declares, “Happy to announce that I am BACK on UFC 200! Shout out to @danawhite and @lorenzofertitta on getting this one done for the fans. #Respect”. This is in reference to McGregor being pulled from the July fight card due to his failure to appear for promotional engagements in Las Vegas. UFC president Dana White and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta were eventually able to hammer out a deal that would see McGregor return to the cqrd, where he’s scheduled to main event against Nate Diaz in a rematch from their encounter at UFC 196 — a fight which resulted in McGregor’s first loss in the company.
But that doesn’t really have a whole lot to do with Sheamus, honestly. The fighting Irishman hasn’t been pulled from any WWE cards, nor has he been in breach of contract. His tweet is simply a joking little response to McGregor’s tweet, in which he shouts out his fellow League of Nations allies Alberto del Rio and Rusev. You can check out the tweets below:

I kind of wish this sense of humor was more apparent on RAW, since Sheamus is a guy who really ought to be a bigger star than he is. Granted, that feels like a funny thing to be saying about a former world champion, but it never feels like WWE is using Sheamus to his fullest potential. He’s a damn good worker, but his booking leaves him feeling terminally bland, whereas I think he actually has the potential to be much more interesting if they simply let him be himself. Then again, I could say that about damn near everyone on the roster, including Roman Reigns. With that having been said, I do wonder if Sheamus could potentially be setting something up, to try and get McGregor to appear on WWE television, even if only for one segment? It could be a savvy business decision to lay the groundwork now, sort of like how The Undertaker set up his Brock Lesnar feud years before his WWE return by actually confronting him on camera at a UFC show. Should be interesting to see if this leads to anything, although I’m not exactly holding my breath.
What do you think of Sheamus poking fun at Conor McGregor? Would you want to see McGregor in WWE? Sound off in the comments!
