WWE Star John Cena Declares ‘Love Has No Labels’ In Patriotic Ad (VIDEO)
WWE star John Cena just might be the real-life Captain America, if this “We Are America” 4th of July campaign from Ad Council is anything to go by.
In this video, Cena talks about what it means to be American, while exploring just what constitutes the “average American.” The video is also eye-opening in the facts Cena presents, as there are more gay, lesbian and transgender Americans than citizens in the entire state of Virginia, and more Muslims in the country than active American military. “What’s more American than freedom to celebrate the things that make us us?” Cena says. “This year, patriotism shouldn’t just be about pride of country. It should be about love. Love beyond age, disability, sexuality, race, religion and any other labels. Because the second any of us judge people based on those labels, we’re not really being patriotic, are we?” He closes his rousing speech by adding, “Remember that to love America is to love all Americans, because love has no labels.” Watch the patriotic video below:
I got chills watching this. Seriously, Cena is probably one of the archetypes most foreigners would envision when they think of America (well, either that or a fat guy from the south), so it was really interesting to hear Cena explain why those types of assumptions, even coming from our own citizens, are misguided. Patriotism isn’t being jingoistic, xenophobic, hateful or exclusionary. It’s about acceptance. And I think Cena really got that point across. It’s an apt message to convey on the 4th of July, in any case.
But what do you think of the video? Sound off in the comments!
