The Smackdown spoilers are in for tonight’s show, which features the final build to this Sunday’s Extreme Rules!
This week, Cesaro goes one-on-one with Kevin Owens to build up the fatal four-way for the Intercontinental championship this Sunday. In addition, Dolph Ziggler goes one-on-one with Sheamus. Dana Brooke, meanwhile, takes on Paige in singles action. In an eight-man tag team match, Tag Team champions The New Day team with Big Cass to take on The Dudleys and No. 1 contenders The Vaudevillains. And, finally, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns battles Luke Gallows of The Club. Chris Jericho, Baron Corbin and Dean Ambrose were also on-hand for segments promoting their respective matches this Sunday, while the ongoing saga of Darren Young and WWE Hall of Famer Bob Backlund continued. Seems like a solid show, and you can check out the full spoilers below via Wrestling Observer/F4WOnline:
WWE SMACKDOWN SPOILERS FOR 05/19/2016
-Kevin Owens defeated Cesaro after Cesaro was distracted by The Miz and Sami Zayn at ringside.
-Dana Brooke defeated Paige. Becky Lynch was at ringside to provide commentary for the match.
-Dolph Ziggler defeated Sheamus. After the match, Baron Corbin came out and cut a promo on Ziggler to build up their match on Sunday at Extreme Rules.
-Chris Jericho came out for a promo with the Asylum cage lowered. However, one of the technicians helping to lower the cage is revealed to be Dean Ambrose. Ambrose and Jericho brawl, and Ambrose gets the upper hand by climbing up, retrieving a Kendo stick, and beating on Jericho with it. Jericho escaped through the cage door, leaving Ambrose standing tall.
-A new life coach segment aired, featuring WWE Hall of Famer Bob Backlund and Darren Young.
-WWE Tag Champions The New Day & Big Cass defeated The Dudleys & The Vaudevillains after Cass pinned Bubba Ray.
-WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns went to a no-contest with Luke Gallows after a brawl broke out between The Club and The Bloodline. The Usos fought with Gallows and Karl Anderson while Styles laid out Reigns with a Pele kick and a chair shot to close the show.
Well, judging by the “Whoever looks strong on the go-home show loses on the pay-per-view” principle, it looks like Kevin Owens isn’t winning the Intercontinental title, nor is Ziggler beating Corbin again. Similarly, it’s looking like Jericho will manage to beat Ambrose, and Reigns will retain against AJ Styles. Of course, this is all just speculation right now, since this isn’t always how the results pan out. But WWE has a formula, and they don’t really stray from it that frequently. That said, it should still be an interesting PPV this Sunday, since there are some potentially great matches on the card.
