WWE Officials Want Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 32
With Wrestlemania 32 being touted as the biggest Wrestlemania of all-time, WWE officials are naturally trying to get every big name they can for the event. And that includes a legendary Hall of Famer who’s proven to be one of the few wrestlers in the modern era to actually stick to his retirement.
Reportedly, Vince McMahon is trying to get Shawn Michaels to play a major role at Wrestlemania 32, according to PWInsider Elite. It’s unknown what role that will be, but ever since Ric Flair revealed on his podcast that WWE offered HBK an insane amount of money to work the 2016 Royal Rumble match (an offer which Shawn, obviously, turned down), it’s seemed apparent that WWE wants him to play a physical role at Mania. Hell, they might even be angling for a match. Or, at the very least, a special referee role for the main event between World Heavyweight Champion Triple H and whomever wins the No. 1 contender triple threat at Fast Lane (so Roman Reigns, basically). While I seriously doubt HBK would come back for one more match, since he’s been very adamant about sticking to his retirement ever since he lost that career match against The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 26, a special refereeing role doesn’t seem beyond the realm of possibility. For one, he’s done it before already, at Wrestlemania 28 for the match between The Undertaker and Triple H. And secondly, this gives him the chance to be a part of the biggest Wrestlemania of all-time in his very own home state of Texas. It’s hard not to be lured in by the money and the chance to perform in front of a home state crowd. Then again, Shawn’s pretty much done it all, so I’m not sure what will/won’t hold sway for him these days.
With all that said, if I had to guess right now, I’d say Shawn is brought in as some sort of special referee. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time this month that WWE has tried to get a legendary name to referee the main event. Apparently, they offered the referee role to Batista, but he turned it down, presumably because he’s in the middle of filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (or maybe it’s because being a referee holds no interest for a guy who prides himself on being able to make a full-time, in-ring return any time he comes back to WWE for a few months). Regardless of the role Shawn Michaels ends up playing at Wrestlemania 32, it’ll be great to see the Heartbreak Kid back in a WWE ring.
