NXT Tag Title match: American Alpha (Jason Jordan & Chad Gable) vs. The Revival (Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson)
Tye Dillinger vs. debuting Manny Andrade
But who were the big winners tonight? Check out the results below! And keep refreshing, as we’ll be adding more results as the night rolls on:
WWE NXT TAKEOVER: THE END RESULTS
-Andrade “Cien” Almas defeated Tye Dillinger in his NXT debut after a knee smash in the corner. Definitely short, but Almas looked like a star out there. That said, I think WWE might have something with Dillinger as well. He’s a really fun as a comedy character.
-The Revival defeated American Alpha to regain the NXT Tag Team Championship after hitting the Shatter Machine on Jason Jordan. Dash & Dawson become the first-ever two-time NXT tag team champions. After the match, American Alpha was attacked by two big men dressed in black led by WWE Hall of Fame manager Paul Ellering. So I guess American Alpha isn’t heading to the main roster any time soon, which was the only way this result makes any sense, to me. But American Alpha is such a great team, they’ll be over as hell whether they get called up next Monday or next year.
-Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Austin Aries after hitting the Kinshasa. A damn fine match that featured, among other things, Aries hitting a Death Valley Driver on the ring apron. Great stuff, and while I understand why they’re being kept in NXT, I feel like both guys would soar on the main roster, especially with a brand split coming up.
-Asuka defeated Nia Jax to retain the NXT Women’s Championship following a series of kicks to the head. Terrific match, and it instantly flipped me on Nia Jax. Sure, you could make the argument that she was brought up to the level of her opponent, but I feel like they could really have something here with Nia, so much so that I kind of wish they’d put her over here and had Asuka chase her over the summer. But I guess they have other plans for her. That said, I’m certainly interested to see who’s next for Asuka.
-Samoa Joe defeated Finn Balor in a steel cage match to retain his NXT Championship after delivering a muscle buster off the top rope. A fantastic main event that was a real back-and-forth finisher-fest, with Balor kicking out of a muscle buster, Joe kicking out of the Coup de Grace, and both men countering each other’s best shots. That said, considering what happened to Tyson Kidd on a regular muscle buster, I REALLY wouldn’t have risked that final spot. But, from the looks of it, Balor landed clean. Here’s hoping he’s okay.
All in all, it was a genuinely great show, although that’s hardly a surprise with NXT TakeOver.
But what did you think of the show? Sound off in the comments!
