WWE Announces Who Will Induct Whom at 2016 Hall of Fame Ceremony
We’re only a month away from Wrestlemania 32 weekend, which includes the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony! Despite the fact that not all of the inductees for this year’s Hall of Fame has been announced, WWE is already getting the hype train rolling by announcing the first set of inductors for the ceremony. So who will induct whom at the annual celebration?
We now know that Ric Flair will induct Sting. As one of his greatest opponents, Flair makes perfect sense, provided WWE couldn’t get Lex Luger (one of Sting’s closest friends throughout his career). Flair was responsible for Sting’s breakout match at Clash of the Champions 1988. Furthermore, Sting won his first world championship from Flair at the Great American Bash in 1990. The two also wrestled in the final match to ever air on WCW Monday Nitro, on March 26, 2001.
Meanwhile, John Bradshaw Layfield and Hall of Famer Ron Simmons will induct Charles Wright, the former Intercontinental and Tag Team champion best known as The Godfather. JBL and Simmons, who were tag team champions as The APA during the Attitude Era, were colleagues of The Godfather. They not only teamed with him, they also wrestled him on multiple occasions. Most notably, the APA teamed with Val Venis to take on Right To Censor faction, which included Wright under the name The Goodfather. In the match, Venis betrayed the APA and joined Right To Censor. But Wright eventually ditched RTC and went back to his old ways as The Godfather. JBL, Simmons and Wright remained friends throughout, culminating in Wright’s well-earned Hall of Fame induction.
Lastly, while we don’t know for certain who will be inducting The Fabulous Freebirds, who were announced as the latest inductees on Monday, we do know some of the people who will be participating in their induction. Freebird Michael PS Hayes that the son of Freebird member Buddy Roberts as well as Ray Gordy (former WWE star Jesse), the son of late Freebird member Terry Gordy, will participate. Joining them will be former rival Kevin Von Erich of the Hall of Fame Von Erich Family. The Freebirds and the Von Erichs were embroiled in one of wrestling’s most legendary rivalries in the 1980s, leading to a boom in the Texas wrestling scene in Dallas. Considering Wrestlemania 32 is in Dallas, this is the perfect year for the team to go into the Hall of Fame.
