WWE Announces Draft Lottery for July 19 Smackdown
WWE has confirmed the date for the upcoming draft lottery, as the official start of the brand split is less than one month away!
The draft will take place on the July 19 episode of Smackdown, which will air live from Worcester, Massachusetts. According to the official press release, the draft will be led by each brand’s respective General Manager, which indicates that WWE will be announcing who will manage each brand sooner rather than later.
“This is an exciting new era for WWE in which we will yet again reinvent ourselves by creating a second night of compelling live television,” said Executive Producer Kevin Dunn.
This marks the first time the draft lottery has ever taken place on Smackdown, as RAW has frequently been the show with all the significant storyline developments. However, with Smackdown going live every Tuesday, WWE needs to find a way to build viewership for the show. And not treating it like the B-show is a great way to start, naturally.
