White Actor Cast As Michael Jackson in 9/11 Comedy Road Trip with Elizabeth Taylor (VIDEO)
“American Horror Story” star Joseph Fiennes plays Michael Jackson in a half-hour comedy about the 9/11 tragedy in New York City. The show is called “Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon” and based on a Vanity Fair article about a road trip Michael Jackson, Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor took in a rental car fleeing the terror attacks in NYC.
The U.K.’s Sky Arts channels says: “Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon is a Sky Arts comedy which takes a light hearted look at a reportedly true event; Joseph Fiennes is cast as Michael Jackson. It is part of a series of comedies about unlikely stories from arts and cultural history. Sky Arts gives producers the creative freedom to cast roles as they wish, within the diversity framework which we have set.”
Joseph Fiennes talked about playing Michael Jackson with ET Canada:
This alleged road trip did not happen according to Michael Jackson’s nephew TJ Jackson who released a statement:
“It’s offensive to me and my family for my Uncle Michael to be portrayed in a comedy taking place around 9/11. Like everyone else, he was distraught, saddened and trying to process what had just happened. Following the events of 9/11, my uncle, Michael, stayed with a family friend in New Jersey for a week before flying back. The rest of our family, immediately took busses back to Los Angeles as planes were grounded. There was no road trip with Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando. I have no comment on the casting of the project.”
