‘Vikings’ Renewed for Season 4
It looks like History Channel has a legitimate scripted hit, as the network has opted to renew Vikings for a fourth season.
The show centers on Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) and an army of Norse warriors as they struggle through the conflicts of the Dark Ages. Averaging 4.3 million live viewers for Season 3, Vikings has proven to be one of the most popular shows the network has ever had. And I can see why. The subject matter of the series gets us away from a network packed documentaries on aliens, loggers in the middle of scenic nowhere, people who live in or near a swamp, and truckers traversing on icy roads. Sometimes, people really do want history on their History Channel, even if it veers into historical fiction.
“We are so proud of our immensely talented cast and crew led by [creator] Michael Hirst, whose intriguing storylines and pivotal arcs have the perfect balance of scope, smarts and bloodshed to keep our loyal fans watching and wanting more,” said History executive vice president and general manager Derek Hoogstra in a statement.
Filming on Vikings Season 4 is scheduled to begin in Ireland in late spring for premiere in 2016.
