Vice President Joe Biden Has Emotional Interview With Stephen Colbert (VIDEO)
On last night’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Vice President Joe Biden dropped by to talk with Stephen about whether or not he’ll run for president in 2016. However, the conversation inevitably turned to Biden’s late son, Beau, who passed away from brain cancer in May at age 46.
“I don’t think any man or woman should run for president unless, No. 1, they know exactly why they would want to be president, and No. 2, they can look at the folks out there and say, ‘I promise you that you have my whole heart, my whole soul, my energy and my passion to do this. And I’d be lying if I said that I knew I was there,” Biden said. “I’m being completely honest. Nobody has the right, in my view, to seek that office unless they’re willing to give it 100 percent of who they are. I’m optimistic, I’m positive about where we’re going […] it just sometimes overwhelms you.”
Biden would go on to recount how he broke down in Denver after meeting someone with whom Beau served in Iraq. However, Stephen noted that Biden’s emotional approach is part of why people want him to run in the first place. The praise Stephen gives to Biden is one of the most moving, touching tributes for a Vice President that I’ve ever heard. This was a surprisingly candid interview for someone holding such a high office. Watch the emotional videos below:
