UFC Star Valentina Shevchenko Robbed In Peru, Coach Shot In Abdomen (VIDEO)
UFC fighter Valentina Shevchenko is scheduled to fight former bantamweight champion Holly Holm in the main event of UFC On FOX 20 in Chicago. But training for that fight is on hold right now following a violent robbery in Peru on Sunday night, as the fighter was caught in the middle of a dramatic shootout that left one of the armed assailants dead.
Three armed assailants robbed a local restaurant in the Chorrilos district of Lima, where Shevchenko and her coach, Pavel Fedotov, happened to be dining. The robbers attempted to flee after swiping roughly $1400 U.S., but Fedotov refused to let the assailants escape with the money. He quickly pulled a gun on the suspects, and a shootout occurred in which more than fifteen rounds were exchanged, according to witnesses. By the end of the shootout, one of the assailants was dead, and Fedotov had a bullet in his gut. Shevchenko was quick to rush to her coach’s side, as you can see in the video below:
Fedotov is currently recovering at the hospital alongside two other customers injured in the shootout. No word on what this means for the fight against Holm on July 23. But it can’t be good for Shevchenko’s psychological well-being, or for her training regimen, to have her coach in the hospital. At the very least, if UFC wants to put together a replacement fight, now would be the time to start weighing options.
