UFC Star Conor McGregor Says He’ll Fight Floyd Mayweather On One Condition
UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor is saying he’ll agree to the superfight with Floyd Mayweather — under one condition.
McGregor addressed the fight while onstage at 1 Oak in New York City on Tuesday night, while celebrating his knockout victory over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 this past Saturday. As expected, McGregor’s one condition for taking the fight under Mayweather’s boxing rules is pretty obvious: he wants a paycheck with A LOT of zeroes at the end.
“He wants it under boxing rules. He wants a boxing match. He doesn’t want a fight,” McGregor shouted to the crowd. “Tell Floyd and Showtime, I’m coming. Tell him to go to them Showtime offices. I want $100 million cash to fight you under boxing rules cause he’s afraid of a real fight.”
Of course, McGregor feels that if it were an MMA fight, Mayweather wouldn’t stand a chance.
“Floyd’s not ready for this. Much respect to Floyd, he’s a solid businessman. What he has been able to do, he’s a (expletive) animal at what he’s been able to do but as far as real fighting, as far as true, pure unarmed combat — Floyd don’t want none of this,” McGregor said. “He does not want none of this.”
I don’t disagree that Mayweather would get destroyed in an MMA bout. But while McGregor has good reach and great discipline, I can’t imagine he’d fare well against an experienced boxer like Mayweather, especially when he has no professional boxing matches under his belt. I can’t even see a commission sanctioning that fight, for that reason alone. But I guess when that much money is at stake, it shouldn’t take too much to grease the wheels, right or wrong.
