UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is generally considered one of the toughest men in MMA. However, even the toughest fighters can require a little backup when things get serious.
When McGregor recently attended the VIP Style Awards in Dublin with girlfriend Dee Devlin, he was flanked by two bodyguards.
"He told people their names were Rocky and Drago, and that he'd hired them because of death threats," a source close to McGregor told the Irish Mirror. "One of them even waited directly outside the toilets when he nipped in at one stage."Credit: Mark J. Rebilas/USA TODAY
No word on the nature of the death threats, although McGregor has been threatened on Twitter in the past, most notably in February, when a person sent him a photo holding an AK-47. There may be nothing to the threats whatsoever, but it's better to be safe than sorry, even if McGregor probably won't be making nearly as many public appearances now that he doesn't have UFC 200 to worry about. It's unlikely he's getting the fight with Floyd Mayweather either, so being out and about might be McGregor's way to keep from going stir crazy, since he likely won't be fighting again until he defends against the winner of the Jose Aldo/Frankie Edgar fight from UFC 200.
