UFC Star Chris Weidman Undergoes Successful Neck Surgery
UFC star Chris Weidman can now begin his long road to recovery, as the fighter has undergone successful neck surgery.
A former UFC middleweight champion, Weidman had his surgery performed on Wednesday in New York by Dr. K. Daniel Riew, according to Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com. The surgery went so well that Weidman was able to return home later that same night. According to Weidman, physical therapy and strength training will begin today, while “hard MMA sparring” will begin in six weeks.
I’m looking forward to Weidman’s return, especially since the middleweight division is a bit different than it was when he left it. Luke Rockhold was soundly beaten by Michael Bisping, so now Weidman getting another shot at the middleweight title against Rockhold seems off the cards. That said, I could see UFC booking a No. 1 contender’s fight between the two, unless they just plan on going the “instant rematch” route with Bisping/Rockhold. Either way, UFC is going to have options once Weidman recovers, and that’s great for the company and for fight fans.
But who do you think Weidman should fight once he returns? Sound off in the comments!
