Tyler James Williams Joins ‘Criminal Minds’ Spinoff

Are the days numbered for Tyler James Williams on The Walking Dead?

It would seem to be that way, since Williams has just been confirmed as the latest cast member for the upcoming Criminal Minds spinoff for CBS.

Williams will play the role of Monty, a “sweet and incredibly smart” tech analyst for the new team. The character description adds, “Monty stays at home while the team works abroad. His attention to detail and kind manner are invaluable as he liaises with the families of those in trouble and uses his tech savvy to help the team fill in the holes as they search for a killer far from home.”

The cast is beginning to shape up for the spinoff, which will be headlined by CSI: NY vet Gary Sinise. Naturally, this is news that is coming not a moment too soon, since shooting has to begin on the backdoor pilot soon if it’s going to be ready to air as a one-off episode of Criminal Minds later this season. But if the show manages to be as popular as its parent series, it should prove to be worth the wait. If nothing else, it’s got a hell of a cast, between Sinise and Williams, the latter of whom is a talented, intelligent guy who just “gets” his characters. He should be a fine addition to this cast, although I’ll miss him on The Walking Dead, if this role really does mean the end for him on AMC’s #1 show.
