Trent Harmon Sings ‘If You Don’t Know Me By Now’ on American Idol 2016 Finale (VIDEO)

Trent Harmon sang “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” on the American Idol 2016 Finale on Wednesday, April 6, 2016.

This is a really good song choice for Trent, all the more so for being a song chosen by Simon Fuller, who is pretty tone deaf when choosing songs for finalists to perform. This is right in Trent’s wheelhouse though, and I think it has the potential to carry him to the title. Dude could be the American Sam Smith, to borrow a term from Michael Slezak. Keith thought it was a brilliant song choice, and loved how Trent sang it. He thinks this could be the closest race in Idol history. Jennifer agrees, saying Trent proved he isn’t going to just lie down and let La’Porsha win this thing. Harry congratulates Simon Fuller on a tremendous song choice, and then notes that he does feel like he knows Trent by now. After the performance, Ryan asks if it’s sunk in that Trent could win, and he replies that it has. He notes that he worked really, really hard to get here. And it’s clear that he has, judging by how he fought through illness in Hollywood Week just to keep going a little bit longer. You can watch the performance video below:
