Top Baby Names of 2015 Include ‘Empire’ Characters, Instagram Filters
So the top baby names of 2015 are in, according to BabyCenter. And while a lot of the names on the list are predictable favorites such as Sophia (which is the No. 1 girls name for a sixth year) and Jackson (No. 1 boy name for a third year), pop culture has played a big role in some of the names that fell just short of the Top 10.
For one, the name Royalty saw an increase of 90% this year, presumably due to Chris Brown’s daughter of the same name. Another pop culture influence on the names was Instagram, as some of the more popular names this year included Instagram filters such as Lux, Juno, Reyes, Ludwig, Amaro, Valencia, and Willow. Even TV is having a say in what babies are getting named this year, as names from Empire have seen huge increases. Names such as Dre, Lyon, and Hakeem saw significant increases in popularity, while the name Lucious actually returned to the Top 100 for the first time in three years.
