‘This Is Us’ Gets Full Season Order From NBC
One of the most buzzworthy new dramas of the year will be sticking around for the rest of the 2016-2017 season!
NBC has officially given a full season order to the ensemble drama This Is Us. Specifically, the network has ordered an additional five episodes, bringing its first season count to 18 episodes. This is less than the 22-episode order many of its procedurals get, but more than most freshman dramas receive in their first season, considering the amount of risk on a new drama. Hell, some freshman dramas don’t make it to episode five on NBC, much less episode 18.
But then, I’m not really worried about This Is Us, considering it’s already one of the biggest new hits of the season after just one episode, earning a 4.2 rating in the key adults 18-49 demographic. When DVR viewership is factored in, viewership totals 13.5 million viewers, which is a damn good number.
Of course, it helps that the show is genuinely compelling, with a strong cast that includes Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Emmy winner Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley, and comes from creator Dan Fogelman, the man behind the awesome, underrated comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love. It’s definitely a show worth checking out, and I’m happy to see it finding early success. Here’s hoping the success lasts well into the rest of the season.
