The X Factor UK 2016 Winner Results: Who Won Series 13? (VIDEO)

The X Factor UK 2016 finale is LIVE as we crown the winner for Series 13! But who won: Saara Aalto or Matt Terry?

Part one of the finale was pretty huge last night, featuring superstar duets between Matt Terry and judge Nicole Scherzinger, Saara Aalto and The X Factor Australia judge Adam Lambert, and 5 After Midnight with Clean Bandit and X Factor UK 2015 winner Louisa Johnson! In addition, Louis Tomlinson had an emotional moment onstage following his performance with Steve Aoki. However, at the end of the night, one act still had to go home, and that act was 5 After Midnight. With that elimination, Louis Walsh joined Simon Cowell as the second judge knocked out of the competition, as the Groups category was finally put to rest for Series 13.

Matt fights back tears as he thanks the country. Simon Cowell congratulates both finalists, and promises to give Matt 100%, since he deserves this opportunity. Saara is all smiles and says she never imagined she’d even get this far. As we head out, Matt performs his winner’s single, “When Christmas Comes Around”, written by Ed Sheeran (and it sounds VERY much like an Ed Sheeran ballad). Naturally, he breaks down in tears as his fellow finalists join him onstage and confetti rains from the ceiling. The X Factor does victory moments like no other show on TV, in my opinion.

I was rooting for Saara, but I can’t be mad with Matt winning. He’s a terrific winner in what turned out to be a wonderful, unpredictable season, particularly towards the end, with Saara’s sudden rise, Matt falling to the Bottom 2, and Honey G becoming one of the most buzzworthy acts the show has ever had, for better or worse. This was a far more exciting season than I was expecting when the first live show started, and I’m just as amped to do it all over again next year. Congratulations to Matt, great job to Saara, and kudos to all the Top 12 finalists and their mentors, as we close the book on The X Factor UK 2016!
