The X Factor Australia 2016 Gets Premiere Date, New Format
The premiere of The X Factor Australia 2016 is finally at hand! Guy Sebastian is back on the panel alongside newcomers Iggy Azalea and Adam Lambert, and new host Jason Dundas.
The X Factor Australia 2016 premieres on Monday, October 3, and it will debut with a new format. Because there are only three judges on the panel, the categories will have to change to account for the lack of a fourth: instead of Boys, Girls, Over 25s and Groups, there will be the Under 22s, Over 22s, and Groups.
But there’s a BIG twist to the format: the other three judges don’t know that a fourth judge will eventually be joining them to mentor a new category — the Wildcards. Presumably, this is a category comprised of artists who were eliminated in earlier rounds.
It sounds pretty exciting, and I wouldn’t be surprised if The X Factor UK implemented this twist in the future, in much the same way it adopted The X Factor USA’s Six-Chair Challenge (which was only a four-chair challenge, in the States). I love Mel B on a judging panel, so this should be a lot of fun. She was one of my favorite judges in her original run on the show three years ago, and I think she could come back as strong as ever, provided her category is a strong one. And considering the amount of amazing people that get cut on any given season, there’s a real possibility it could be.
But what do you think about the new format for The X Factor Australia? Sound off in the comments!
