The X Factor Australia 2015: Top 10 Perform as Judges Get Into Heated Argument (VIDEO)
The X Factor Australia 2015 continued, as the Top 10 performed for the right to stay in the competition. However, the biggest moment from the show wasn’t any of the performances.
The judges got into a heated argument after Georgia Denton performed the Jackson 5 classic “I’ll Be There”, as the rival judges all ripped into Dannii Minogue over what they perceive to be baffling song choices for the teenager. Things quickly got uncomfortable, with James Blunt telling Dannii that she doesn’t take criticism well, prompting Dannii to stand up for her song choices, and the motivations behind them. It was an unsettling back-and-forth, but this show often thrives on this sort of drama. Anyway, we got some solid performances from the Top 10, as the theme was Top 10 hits, which resulted in an impressive showing for some of the contestants.
Watch all the performance videos below:
BIG T, “I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE”
GEORGIA DENTON, “I’LL BE THERE
JUDGES GO TO WAR OVER GEORGIA DENTON AND DANNII’S SONG CHOICES
IN STEREO, “PHOTOGRAPH”
MAHALIA SIMPSON, “GET STUPID”
JIMMY DAVIS, “WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG”
LOUISE ADAMS, “BANG BANG (MY BABY SHOT ME DOWN)”
MICHAELA BARANOV, “MURDER ON THE DANCE FLOOR”
NATALIE CONWAY, “WRECKING BALL”
JESS & MATT, “DO YOU REMEMBER”
CYRUS VILLANUEVA, “HOLD BACK THE RIVER”
Thoughts: For me, Jess & Matt were the performance of the night, full-stop. That was an amazing, intimate vocal that ranks among the most instantly memorable of the season. But Cyrus, Natalie and Mahalia were close behind, and I’d be shocked if those acts weren’t the final four, since none of the other finalists come close, in my opinion. What’s unfortunate about the Georgia Denton situation is that she really does have talent, but I don’t think, ultimately, the song choices will matter to her. I feel like she’s already peaked, and her time in the competition is numbered, unless all this controversy buys her some extra time. I like Georgia, and she certainly could be doing better than she has been, but this isn’t as catastrophic as it would be if Dannii were doing this to the potential winner of this season. Still, Georgia deserves to have better showings than this.
