‘The Walking Dead’ Has Finally Found Its Negan

Negan is one of the most iconic villains in The Walking Dead lore, and fans of the comic book have long awaited his inevitable appearance in the TV show. And it’s now looking as if that appearance will come sooner rather than later.

After a long casting search, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been cast as Negan, the foul-mouthed, baseball bat-wielding villain who’s responsible for some of the most shocking atrocities committed in the TWD Universe. It’s expected Morgan will make his first appearance as Negan in the Season 6 finale, directed by co-executive producer/special make-up effects supervisor Greg Nicotero, this spring. He will become a series regular in Season 7.

Morgan is an outstanding choice for the role, as he’s really got this whole villain thing down pat, depending on how you feel about The Comedian from Watchmen. He’s also kept busy since then, appearing on everything from CW’s Supernatural to CBS’s The Good Wife and Extant, and even big screen fare such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where he’ll play Thomas Wayne. He’s an immensely versatile actor, and I think the casting department has really nailed this pick. He can really luxuriate in villainy, and I think that’s something the part of Negan will need for the upcoming season. We need to hate this guy, and I think Morgan can pull off that characterization with flair.
