The Voice Top 12 Recap: Is This Season The Billy Gilman Show? (VIDEO)

The Voice Top 12 performed live tonight, and it was as much of a mixed bag as you’d probably expect. The talent is arguably as good as it’s ever been, but the song choices are similarly stale.

Seriously, is there any reason to have one show that features “Livin’ On a Prayer”, “Take Me To Church” AND “I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing”? Maybe their hands were tied and they couldn’t clear other songs, but I just found this to be a really boring show from a song choice perspective. There’s also an air of inevitability about this season as Billy Gilman looks unstoppable. Of course, a lot of people said that about Matt McAndrew, and I suppose someone could build momentum and surge to the win, particularly if Billy’s momentum peaks too early. But I’d be shocked if he didn’t pull off an Alisan Porter or Jordan Smith march to victory. That said, if Billy does win, he’ll be a deserving winner. Hell, I think he has the potential to be a really successful winner, to boot. So I definitely wouldn’t mind if Billy steamrolled his way to the win, even if it does seem predictable now. I guess we’ll find out if I’m hilariously wrong in a month’s time.
