‘The Voice’ Coach Blake Shelton Joins ‘The Angry Birds Movie’
The most successful coach in the history of The Voice is signing on for one of the most anticipated animated movies of 2016: Blake Shelton has joined the cast of The Angry Birds Movie! However, that’s not all, as Blake has also signed on to write a song for the movie! So who knows? Maybe by the time Oscar nominations come out for the films of 2016, Blake could be the second Voice coach to be nominated for an Oscar after Pharrell Williams (who earned a Best Original Song nomination for “Happy” from Despicable Me 2).
As for Blake’s role in the film, the country music superstar will voice one of those pigs. In particular, he’ll be voicing the countrified character of Earl, who required Blake’s specific brand of country credibility.
“They kept saying, ‘More country!’” Blake recalled about his recording session, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly centered on the film. “I felt like I was doing a voice-over for Dukes of Hazzard.”
Strangely enough, the process wasn’t much easier when it came to songwriting for the movie.
“I can write things about myself and my life,” Blake noted. “But I don’t have a whole lot of experience being shot out of a slingshot at pigs.”
The Angry Birds Movie hits theaters on May 20, while The Voice Season 10 premieres on NBC in February.
