‘The Lego Movie Sequel’ and Spinoffs Get Release Dates
Fans of The Lego Movie are mostly over that pesky Oscar snub by now, but what will really help then overcome the sting is a new installment in the film franchise. Lucky for them, they can now start marking down their calendars, as the release dates have been revealed for the upcoming films in the Lego Universe.
Lego Batman will hit theaters on February 10, 2017, looking to capitalize on the February release window that led to The Lego Movie becoming such a runaway success at the box office. Meanwhile, Lego Ninjago has been pushed back to September 22, 2017 in the United States, with international release dates to be revealed at a later date. Lastly, The Lego Movie Sequel will hit theaters on May 18, 2018, a week earlier than planned. Kind of a lousy, unimaginative title on that one, but it could probably be named “Farts United” and still make a boatload of money.
“We are very excited about dating our upcoming LEGO animated features, which already have a worldwide fan following, built on the foundation of the first film,” said Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution at Warners. “These three films already in the pipeline are just the beginning of a creative and diverse animation slate that will be delighting audiences for years to come.”
I’m most excited for Lego Batman, since Will Arnett ended up being the big surprise of The Lego Movie, for me. Okay, maybe “surprise” isn’t the right word, since I knew he had that sort of comedic performance in him. But Lego Batman ended up being one of the highlights of the movie, and I think that character is more than capable of carrying his own film.
