The CW Planning ‘Flash’/’Arrow’ Team-Up Spinoff With Brandon Routh, Wentworth Miller, More
The CW is expanding its DC Universe programming by greenlighting a spinoff team-up series featuring characters from its two DC hits from the past few seasons, Arrow and The Flash.
This untitled spinoff will reportedly feature several actors reprising their roles from the respective parent series, with Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/The Atom, Wentworth Miller as Leonard Snart/Captain Cold, and Victor Garber as Dr. Martin Stein, who is one half of the entity known as Firestorm. Robbie Amell plays Ronnie Raymond, the other half of Firestorm, on The Flash, but he has not yet been confirmed for this spinoff series. However, Caity Lotz has been confirmed. Of course, what’s interesting about this is that her Arrow character, Sara Lance, was killed off, resulting in her sister, Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), taking over as the Black Canary. Yet this casting suggests Lotz might be returning as Black Canary, although I suppose she could be an all-new character of some sort. It’s a mystery I’m anxious to see solved, but it’s far from the only interesting thing about this series, since a superhero team-up show has a certain novelty to it that I feel is worth exploring. If nothing else, they could give TNT’s upcoming live-action Teen Titans series a run for its money.
The series is in the very early stages of development, so it’s not hard to imagine that other crossover characters will be added to the mix for the spinoff. At the very least, we know for sure that the series will include three major DC characters who’ve never been depicted on television before in a live-action series. Any guesses on which characters they might be?
And what do you think of the series? Is this a good idea, or is The CW running the risk of wearing out a good thing (i.e., its superhero franchises)? Sound off in the comments!
