‘The Bachelor’ Stars Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell In Couples Therapy

The Bachelor couple Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell are in couples therapy, but the situation is not as grim for their romance as you might think.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Ben and Lauren explained that they are undergoing couples counseling in order to iron out some lingering issues prior to getting married.

“We want to get a foundation that is healthy and pure and honest, with some help from a mediator,” Ben said. “’Bachelor’ or not, our life is not easy to navigate. We have our struggles. But we won’t give up. And for every argument, we’re stronger for it.”

“Even facing situations I didn’t know if I could handle, running away was never an option for me,” Lauren added. “I am so committed to Ben. I love him so much and at the end of the day, I want to spend my life with him.”

The couple, who have been living together since April, are undergoing counseling at their Denver, Colorado church. This isn’t too dissimilar from what fellow Bachelor franchise alums Jade and Tanner Tolbert are doing, although their couples counseling is happening on national television on Marriage Boot Camp. Of course, some of the issues Ben and Lauren face are actually a result of having met on The Bachelor, as adjusting to life as a couple outside the show proved to be challenging.

“There are so many weird elements to being in a relationship after ‘The Bachelor,’” Lauren said. “We’ve gotten in arguments like any other couple, but about some things that other couples wouldn’t have to fight about, like the fact that we met when he was dating other women. You can say that’s what I signed up for, but it’s still real life and it’s still hard.”

That said, Ben and Lauren are still very much committed to walking down the aisle. They just aren’t sure when yet.

“We don’t have a date yet, but we have kind of started the initial phases,” Lauren admitted. “We both kind of talked more about maybe a winter wedding.”

I would imagine if/when Ben and Lauren get married, ABC is going to want to televise it. But for now, we’ll have to keep up with their relationship through their show, Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?, which premieres on Freeform on Oct. 11. To be honest, the show doesn’t exactly look thrilling, but I’m anticipating it mostly due to the sheer amount of familiar faces from the Bachelor Nation who are set to appear on the show, including Bachelorette JoJo Fletcher and fiance Jordan Rodgers, Bachelor franchise host Chris Harrison, and even Bachelorette villain Chad Johnson.

But what do you think about all this? Sound off in the comments!
