Syfy Renews ‘Killjoys’ and ‘Dark Matter’ for Season 3
The renewals are part of Syfy’s attempt to get back to its classic science-fiction roots, albeit at a lower risk. For one, Syfy isn’t actually producing these shows, as they’re both Canadian imports. Killjoys is the bigger success of the two, averaging over 1 million viewers, with half coming from the coveted adults 18-49 demographic when DVR is factored in. Although Dark Matter isn’t as strong a ratings performer, the bar for success is much lower, considering it was a low-cost import for the network. In fact, Syfy is making a mint on these imports, as the recently-acquired Wynonna Earp has also become a surprise hit. So expect Syfy to stick to this strategy for the foreseeable future.
