‘Switched at Birth’ Renewed for Season 5

With its fourth season finale airing next week, ABC Family has announced that Switched at Birth has been renewed for a fifth season! The show will return in 2016 on the newly-rebranded network, which will go by the name Freeform starting in January.

From creator Lizzy Weiss, Switched at Birth tells the story of two teenage girls who discover they were…well, switched at birth. With its focus on tackling teen subject matter with frankness and maturity, Switched at Birth has remained one of ABC Family’s most acclaimed programs, earning honors from the Television Critics Association, in addition to winning an Imagen Award and a Peabody.

“Every season ‘Switched at Birth’ continues to deliver fresh, relatable storylines that tackle important social issues, reflecting what our audience experiences daily,” said Karey Burke, Executive Vice President, Programming and Development. “We’re excited to see where Lizzy will take these characters next.”

Congrats to Lizzy Weiss and the cast and crew of Switched at Birth! The renewal was well-earned.
