Steven R. McQueen Leaving ‘The Vampire Diaries’

The Vampire Diaries is losing an original (well, not an Original, but an original star…ah, you get the point).

Steven R. McQueen — who’s played Elena’s brother, Jeremy, since the first season — will be leaving the vampire drama later this season.

“His final episode will be episode 614, and the episode leading up [to it] will be him grappling with whether or not it’s time for him to say goodbye to Mystic Falls,” said The Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec. “Every year we look at which characters we feel like are ready to move on, whether to better things in life or to the Great Beyond. This year, we realized that Jeremy has truly grown into a man, and as the victim of so much pain at the hands of the supernatural universe, we felt like it was time for him to go out on his own and start a fresh new life — with a twist.”

However, there is hope for fans of McQueen that hope to see him one day return to Mystic Falls: the character will not be killed off, so there is the possibility he might come back if the story requires him to. “He’ll always be welcome to join us for important events — unless [McQueen] finally gets his wish to play a superhero and he’s unavailable.”

McQueen hasn’t made any statements about his future plans, but I do hear TNT has a little project they’re putting together for which they need superheroes. Maybe McQueen is destined to wear some tights after all? Hopefully, his agent can get him an audition, because I could easily see him as part of the Teen Titans.
