Stephen Amell Cast as Casey Jones in ‘Ninja Turtles’ Sequel
The star of Arrow is trading in his green cloak to go hang out with some other guys in green.
Stephen Amell has been cast as Casey Jones in the upcoming sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Jones is the roguish, badass outsider who aligns with the turtles against Shredder and the rest of the Foot Clan. He’s been a regular fixture in Turtles lore for ages now, from the comic books to the multiple animated series. Hell, he even appeared on the big screen before, although some might argue Amell is a better choice in the role than Elias Koteas was back in the original TMNT film in 1990.
Amell reportedly won the role by beating out five other actors, and although we don’t know who those actors are, we do know that Amell’s chemistry Megan Fox won him the gig, which makes sense since since Casey Jones is a romantic interest for April O’Neil. Of course, I’m curious to see what he can do with a hockey stick in his hands, since he’s proven more than capable of handling himself in an action context from his work on Arrow. There’s a lot of potential here, so I’m stoked over this casting. No word on how, or even if, the movie will interfere with filming for Arrow, but I’m guessing The CW will find a way to work around his schedule, since Amell is too valuable to the CW brand to lose.
I guess we’ll see how Amell does when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 hits theaters on June 3, 2016.
