‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Comic Con Reel Offers Behind the Scenes Peek (VIDEO)
Star Wars: The Force Awakens had a big presence at San Diego Comic Con 2015 this year, with even Harrison Ford making an appearance at the panel. However, in lieu of a new trailer, director J.J. Abrams offered a special, behind the scenes peek at The Force Awakens with a “Comic Con 2015 Reel”.
“We aren’t ready to show you scenes from the movie or a new trailer,” Abrams said to a disappointed audience. “But we wanted to bring something that was as unique and unexpected as we could.” This was enough to perk up the crowd, and the resulting video was a pretty big winner, illustrating the impressive work that went into creating the eye-popping practical effects. It also features concept art, interviews with the stars of the film, and a Stormtrooper with a freakin’ flamethrower?!?! My body is BEYOND READY for this movie. Seriously, this is an absolutely wonderful little short film. You can watch the whole video below:
Ultimately, what impressed me the most was the lengths to which Abrams went to recreate the cobbled together, lived-in feel of the original Star Wars movies. There’s still digital work, sure, but the sheer amount of practical effects and on-location shooting is stunning. I even admit I had chills at the shot of what appears to be Han and Leia sitting in the Millennium Falcon once again, although that might have been Daisy Ridley. My eyes are admittedly terrible. Either way, this movie simply can’t get here soon enough.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18. But until then, let us know what you think of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Comic Con 2015 reel in the comments below!
