Spain Will Be Dorne in ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 5
After casting Chilean actor Pedro Pascal as Oberyn Martell for Game of Thrones Season 4, it only made sense that, when we inevitably visited Dorne, it would have a touch of Spanish flavor. Thus, it’s no real surprise that Spain has been chosen to serve as Dorne for Game of Thrones Season 5.
The U.S. ambassador to Spain and former Vice President of HBO, James Costos, confirmed the news that all Dornish scenes would be shot in Spain, which comes following rumors that location scouts for the show have been combing the area.
The Alcázar of Seville (pictured below) will act as the Water Gardens of Dorne, the seat from which Prince Doran Martell rules the country. In addition, it is expected that the country will serve as the filming location for Sunspear, the seat of House Martell.
With its elegant construction and slightly rustic look, it’s essentially the perfect spot to serve as Dorne’s infamous Water Gardens, and it’s pretty damn close to how I pictured it in the books. Now all we need is to cast some more Dornish, including Prince Doran and the Sand Snakes. Bring it on, Game of Thrones.
