Sia Brings Back Maddie Ziegler for ‘Big Girls Cry’ Music Video

Maddie Ziegler was well-known from her time on Lifetime’s Dance Moms, but she really exploded onto the scene when Sia chose her for the “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart” music videos. And now, the partnership continues as Maddie stars in her third music video from the 1000 Forms of Fear album.

The music video for “Big Girls Cry” features Maddie delivering a contained, emotive performance that focuses on her facial expressions. Not only is Maddie a talented dancer, she’s showing herself to be quite the actress. At the very least, she’s proving just how expressive she is with every movement. The video was directed by Sia and Daniel Askill, and it continued the overall motif of the Maddie Ziegler trilogy by keeping the focus on her and making Sia herself a non-entity in the video. The result is fairly compelling to watch, as it opens itself up to different readings. What is the video trying to say? What is its theme? What’s happening to Maddie’s character? It’s all thought-provoking stuff, and it helps that the song isn’t exactly hard on the ears either.
