Showtime Renews ‘Shameless’, Sets Return Dates for ‘Penny Dreadful’, 2 More
Showtime is the latest network making the rounds at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, and in keeping with all the major announcements to come out of the tour, the network has announced one big renewal, and three premiere dates.
First and foremost, Showtime has announced that they have renewed Shameless for a 12-episode sixth season. The news comes fresh off of Sunday night’s season five premiere.
“The viewer loyalty and critical acclaim over the last five seasons has made Shameless one of our signature series,” said Showtime president David Nevins said. “This incredible collection of writers and actors have created a show truly unique in the television landscape.”
In addition, Showtime has given a 10-episode pickup to the comedy series Happyish. The show, which originally starred Philip Seymour Hoffman in his first major television series role prior to his death, will now star Steve Coogan as Thom Payne, a man whose life collapses when he learns his new boss is just 25-years-old.
Naturally, Happyish was one of three series to have its premiere date announced by the network, as Showtime confirmed that the new comedy would share space with the final season of Nurse Jackie, and the second season of the hit horror drama Penny Dreadful.
The premiere schedule:
Nurse Jackie (Final Season Premiere) – April 12 at 9:00 PM
Happyish (Series Premiere) – April 12 at 9:30 PM
Penny Dreadful (Second Season Premiere) – April 26 at 10:00 PM
