Scarlett Johansson to star in ‘Ghost in the Shell’ live action movie
Scarlett Johansson is set to star in the live action movie adaptation of the Ghost in the Shell anime, reports Variety.
DreamWorks will produce and Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) is set to direct.
The Ghost in the Shell anime (adapted from the manga) was released in 1995 and directed by Mamoru Oshii. It follows the story of Motoko Kusanaigi and the Japanese National Public Safety Commission and their hunt for a hacker named Puppet Master. From Wikipedia: “The overarching philosophical themes of the film include sex/gender identity and self-identity in a technologically advanced world.”
