Ronda Rousey Return Official For UFC 207
It’s official: Ronda Rousey is stepping back into the octagon. Rousey will make her long-awaited return to MMA when she battles UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 on December 30 in Las Vegas.
The fight had been rumored for weeks now, but contracts have only just been signed to make the fight official. It should be an interesting contest, considering this will be Rousey’s first fight since the devastating end of her undefeated streak at the hands (and feet) of Holly Holm at UFC 193. Before that loss, Rousey had been the most dominant female fighter to ever compete in mixed martial arts, successfully retaining the women’s bantamweight title on six separate occasions, and finishing many of her fights in the first round. But there’s the big question of whether or not Rousey is ready to jump right back into the top of her division, or if a tune-up fight might have been more advisable.
This will be the first bantamweight title defense for Nunes, who won the gold from Miesha Tate at UFC 200 back in July, and this could be a real test for her ability to last into later rounds, assuming Rousey plays it safe and doesn’t immediately go for the first round submission. Nunes has one of the strongest ground games in her division, and while Rousey is a submission specialist, she’ll have her hands full with a fighter like Nunes. If nothing else, it should be an interesting fight. I can’t wait.
