Recurring ‘Game of Thrones’ Cast Member Upgraded to Series Regular for Season 5
Towards the end of Game of Thrones Season 3, we were introduced to the character of Daario Naharis, a handsome, cocky mercenary who pledges his loyalty (and, possibly, his affections) to Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). The role was originated in Season 3 by Ed Skrein, but he’s since moved on, prompting the role to be recast with actor Michiel Huisman (Nashville, Treme).
With that casting now comes that news that before even stepping into his role as Daario Naharis, Huisman has been upgraded from recurring to series regular. However, there’s a catch: Huisman will not be an official series regular until Season 5. This is likely due to the fact that Season 4 is intended to cover the back half of book three in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Storm of Swords, and most of the Naharis plotlines from that book have already been covered by Season 3, leaving the character with little to do this season. Still, this announcement is an encouraging sign that the role won’t end up being recast yet again.
Game of Thrones Season 4 premieres this spring on HBO.
