Popular Character Actor Jon Polito Dead at 65
Hollywood has lost one of its most beloved, versatile characters actors: former Seinfeld star and Coen Brothers regular Jon Polito is dead at 65.
Polito passed away after slipping into a coma last Sunday due to an arthritis related infection complicated by his ongoing battle with multiple myeloma. Polito’s family took him off life support on Thursday night.
The sad news was confirmed on Friday morning by director and friend John McNaughton, who said, “Jon was a born actor and will be deeply missed by his legion of friends, fans, family and of course his long time partner, Darryl Armbruster to whom I send my condolences. R.I.P. old pal.”
Polito was one of the most talented character actors of his generation, which is why he was so popular among directors, and why he had as active a career as he did, with roles in TV shows such as Homicide: Life on the Street, NYPD Blue, Modern Family, and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and Coen Brothers films such as The Big Lebowski, Miller’s Crossing and Barton Fink. Needless to say, he was a great, versatile performer, and he will be missed.
Rest in peace, Mr. Polito.
