Willie Spence from Douglas, Georgia auditioned for “American Idol” with “Diamonds” by Rihanna. Judge Lionel Richie said that he was a star from the first note.
Willie told judge Katy Perry that he wants to win a Grammy someday with the platform that “American Idol” can give him. “It’s going to take hard work but I’m going to try,” he said.

Willie Spence got a golden ticket to Hollywood and hopefully he gets to the voting rounds. His voice is excellent. What a solid audition.
“Diamonds” is Willie’s signature song and he has gone viral many times over the last couple of years on social media. It’s a good thing ABC’s audience doesn’t care anymore about undiscovered talent. Idol fans would have rejected Willie instantly a few years ago if they discovered he had tens of thousands of subscribers already on YouTube and tens of millions of views before he auditioned. It just wouldn’t be “fair”.
