Philippine Church Defends Manny Pacquiao For Calling Gays ‘Worse Than Animals’
The Philippine Catholic Church has openly defended boxer Manny Pacquiao, who came under fire last week for calling gays “worse than animals.” The executive secretary of the Catholic bishop’s public affairs office in the Philippines said that Pacquiao was “only quoting from the Bible” and should not be condemned.
He said (via AFP):
“This is really in the Bible. There is this quote he (Pacquiao) uses from the Bible and we cannot change that.””
Pacquiao said in an interview with Philippine media last week that gays were “worse than animals” as he was campaigning for senator in the May elections in the country. He is already a two-term congressman.
Pacquiao has said his ultimate ambition is to be president of the Philippines.
