Oscar Pistorius May Be Released After 10 Months in Prison for Culpable Homicide

Remember that time Oscar Pistorius was sentenced to a measly five years in prison for taking another human life?

Sadly, the sports star will probably serve less than a year of his sentence. He’ll likely receive his freedom ten months after being charged in the death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

A committee at the South African prison where Pistorius is being held said they made their recommendation based on good behavior, suggesting that the athlete be released on August 21.

After his probable release, Pistorius will be placed on parole and house arrest.

He was charged with culpable homicide back in October of 2014 after shooting his girlfriend multiple times through a closed door and claiming he thought she was an intruder.

Steenkamp’s family is understandably perturbed by this news, telling BBC that Pistorius’ prison time is “not enough for taking a life.”

“It also doesn’t send out the proper message and serve as the proper deterrent as the way it should.”
