‘New Girl’ Renewed for Season 5, John Cho and Taran Killam to Guest Star

To the surprise of no one, FOX has renewed New Girl for Season 5.

The reason this isn’t a shocker, aside from the fact that the show pretty much anchors FOX’s Tuesday night lineup, is because production on Season 5 is already well underway. In fact, production on Season 5 began almost immediately after production on Season 4 wrapped. This was because star Zooey Deschanel is pregnant, so they needed to shoot around it before she left for maternity leave, since her pregnancy is not being incorporated into the show.

“Four seasons in, New Girl continues to be one of the smartest and most relatable comedies on television,” said Fox entertainment president David Madden. “The writing is razor-sharp, the ensemble is consistently hilarious, and we couldn’t be more proud of… the entire New Girl team. We absolutely love this show and we’re so excited to bring it back for Season Five.”

In addition to the renewal is a pair of new faces to the guest-starring cast for Season 5: Selfie and Sleepy Hollow alum John Cho will play a guy Jess meets when reporting for jury duty, while SNL‘s Taran Killam will play Fred, Jess’s new boyfriend, whose parents are pretty much amazing. Perhaps they’ll be on-hand for the show’s 100th episode? This fifth season renewal pretty much confirms that New Girl will reach that milestone, so kudos to the cast and crew! That said, I can’t believe it’s almost been five years already. Time flies when you’re chilling with Jess, I guess.
