‘Nashville’ Star Hayden Panettiere Enters Treatment for Postpartum Depression
Nashville star Hayden Panettiere is entering treatment for postpartum depression, in an eerie parallel with her character’s story on the show itself.
“Hayden Panettiere is voluntarily seeking professional help at a treatment center as she is currently battling postpartum depression. She asks that the media respect her privacy during this time,” read the statement from her representative. This is all the more surprising because it seemed as though Panettiere was at last beginning to regain her confidence and wellness. On Saturday, the actress/singer tweeted, “Feeling like I’m #finally coming back in to my own body! mother #daughter #blessing #wellworthit.”
Panettiere herself, in interviews, has admitted she’s been struggling with the debilitating condition following the birth of her first child, Kaya, whom she and boxing superstar husband, Wladimir Klitschko, welcomed last December. However, in a strange twist of fate, her character on Nashville, Juliette Barnes, is also suffering from severe postpartum depression. Panettiere was quick to note, just one month ago, that she could very much identify with the struggles her character was facing.
“I can very much relate. It’s something a lot of women experience. When [you’re told] about postpartum depression you think it’s ‘I feel negative feelings towards my child, I want to injure or hurt my child.’ I’ve never, ever had those feelings,” said Panettiere, in an interview on Live! With Kelly and Michael. “Some women do. But you don’t realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on. It’s something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know that they’re not alone, and that it does heal.”
We wish Panettiere all the best in her recovery, and our thoughts are with she and her family.
