Michael Jackson Comedy Featuring White Actor Pulled From The Air
U.K.’s Sky has pulled the controversial Michael Jackson episode from its “Urban Myths” series after the late singer’s family said it was offensive.
The episode titled “Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon” will not air on Sky Arts on January 19 as originally planned.
In a statement Sky said:
“We have taken the decision not to broadcast Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon, a half-hour episode from the Sky Arts Urban Myths series, in light of the concerns expressed by Michael Jackson’s immediate family. We set out to take a lighthearted look at reportedly true events and never intended to cause any offense. Joseph Fiennes fully supports our decision.”
On Thursday, Paris Jackson sent a series of tweets criticizing Joseph Fiennes’ portrayal of her father. “It honestly makes me want to vomit,” she wrote. “It angers me to see how obviously intentional it was for them to be this insulting, not just towards my father, but my godmother liz as well.”
This was really in poor taste and shouldn’t have been made in the first place. Sky already got complaints last year when they announced this project! Shame.
