One of the most popular and ubiquitous game franchises of the past decade is heading to the big screen, and it’s set to feature an outstanding cast. Although don’t expect the story to follow any of the specific games.
In this first look at the Assassin’s Creed movie, Michael Fassbender is Callum Lynch, a character created specifically for the movie. However, while the movie won’t adapt any of the specific stories of the Assassin’s Creed games, it will still be a part of the game’s world and mythology. But before we get into story details, get your first look at Fassbender below via Yahoo:
The movie will center on Lynch, who learns that he is descended from the ancient line of assassins that serve as the protagonists of the game series. He discovers this thanks to the genetic memories of his ancestor, Aguilar, who lived in Spain during the 15th century. Through accessing and reliving these memories, Lynch will be able to gain the skills he needs in order to battle the Knights Templar, the age-old rivals of the assassins, in the present. The cast will star Oscar winner Marion Cotillard, Boardwalk Empire‘s Michael Kenneth Williams, and Before Midnight star Ariane Labed.
Assassin’s Creed hits theaters December 21, 2016.
