Michael B. Jordan Is the New Rocky in Emotional ‘Creed’ Trailer (VIDEO)
This could be a big year for Michael B. Jordan. In addition to his role as Johnny Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four, he’ll be starring alongside Sylvester Stallone in the latest film in the Rocky franchise.
In the first, powerful trailer for Creed, Jordan plays Adonis Creed, the son of Rocky’s late friend/former rival Apollo Creed. If you’ll recall, Apollo was killed in the ring by Ivan Drago back in Rocky IV, an event that irrevocably changed Rocky Balboa, and the franchise around it, as the movies themselves suffered a bit from the lack of Carl Weathers’s charisma. But Jordan is here to pick up the slack, as Adonis is more than ready to carry on his father’s legacy, and perhaps bring the Rocky franchise into a new era. Watch the awesome trailer below:
There are a lot of callbacks to earlier movies in this saga, from the friendly sparring match at the end of Rocky III, to the iconic run through Philadelphia from the first Rocky movie. All in all, it’s looking like an intense drama with an underlying sense of history to it. And that could help considerably with making this an engaging, gripping continuation in the Rocky saga. If nothing else, the strong cast certainly helps, with Jordan and Stallone being joined by Wood Harris as Adonis Creed’s trainer, Tessa Thompson as his love interest, and Phylicia Rashad as his mother.
Creed hits theaters on November 25th. But what did you think of the trailer? Sound off in the comments!
