Marvel’s New ‘Ant-Man’ Trailer Is Downright Awesome (VIDEO)
The new trailer for Ant-Man is here, and it does a wonderful job of illustrating just how unique this movie is going to be.
Straddling the line between comedy and drama, as all the best Marvel movies tend to do, Ant-Man is going to feature a lot of very clever action setpieces focused around the shrinking abilities of the titular hero. Paul Rudd plays Scott Lang with a dry humor that suits the character well, and Evangeline Lily is just as charming as Hope Van Dyne, daughter of both Wasp and the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym (Michael Douglas, looking both stately and worn, as befitting a legendary superhero). But the real star here is the suit. We get to see a lot of what it can do, essentially transforming Scott into a bullet, and giving him superhuman strength while in his shrunken form. Naturally, this comes in handy against Darren Cross (the wonderful Corey Stoll), who gets up in Ant-Man’s business as the villainous Yellowjacket. It’s the most exciting battle to ever involve Thomas the Tank Engine!
Seriously though, this trailer is downright awesome, managing to convey the adventurous spirit of the source material, but without directly making fun of it. Sure, the premise errs on the side of absurdity, but no more so than most other superhero flicks. This should be terrific, and could rival Guardians of the Galaxy as Marvel’s biggest surprise hit (sure, it’s not surprise now, but plenty of people last year were wondering if Guardians was too weird to do the same kind of business Marvel movies usually do at the box office).
